With miles of beach and coastline, West Dorset is a paradise playground for young children – and the adults. When the kids have had enough of sandcastles and splashing about in the sea, fear not. Dorset is a treasure trove of fun activities for young families.

We love welcoming young families to our holiday cottages in Bridport. Below, you can find a list of some of West Dorset’s best attractions loved by little ones as much as the parents! Each attraction is just a short drive from your Bridport holiday rental and is sure to be a place of great fun and lasting memories.

Jurassic Coast Fossil Hunting Walks

A short drive west of your Bridport holiday cottage is another adventure opportunity for young families. At Lyme Regis Beach and Charmouth Beach, you and your little ones can take an exciting walk into the past on the hunt for fossils along West Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. The team at Guided Fossil Hunts have been taking individuals, mixed groups, school children and more for fun and fact-filled expeditions for more than 10 years. They are great at tailoring their walks and talks for their audience, so a child-friendly tour is bound to make avid explorers of your kids!

The Dinosaur Museum

In case the kids haven’t had their fill of fossils, we suggest a visit to the award-winning Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester, the county town of Dorset. A converted Victorian warehouse, The Dinosaur Museum is jam-packed with interactive displays, fun facts and real fossils including dinosaur heads, teeth and eggs. Take a trip from the comfort of your holiday cottage in Dorset and let your children experience walking amongst life-size reconstructions of Stegosaurus, T-Rex and more!

Overlooking the sea in the village of Beer is Pecorama, a nine acre attraction dedicated to model railways. With models-galore, outdoor play areas, indoor soft play, crazy golf and the much-loved Beer Heights Light Railway, Pecorama promises a day of family fun a short drive along the coast from your holiday cottage in Bridport.

Beer Quarry Caves
